Crete is where sunlight, nature and people substantiate in a timeless myth.
Apparently unrelated historic moments, yet links of the same chain, hold fast the distant mysterious past to the charm of the here-and-now.
Crete: the crandle of European civilization, a geographical location where climatologic and morphologic features maintain a dedicated balance; the birthplace of different yet harmonious civilizations.
Crete is characterized by a changing variety of landscapes. Lush massifs may be the hosts of the fertile plateaus or may give shape to fabulous gorges of immense natural beauty.
The land may be barren and wild at one location but fertile and forested at another, the eye is never tired of this natural caprice.
Villages, monasteries, piles of rock, castles on hill tops, peak sanctuaries and other antiquities are testimony to an unadulterated life, even by the trolls of modern living.
They are the signs of uninterrupted human presence and of a civilization known as the Minoan Civilization.
The Splendor of Crete diffuses the Mediterranean basin. Architecture, painting, pottery and goldmithery reach the highest level of artistic perfection.
Preserved murals witness the psyche of a peace-loving, cheerful and powerful people attached to the sea and to the great goddess Earth.
During the Roman occupation (69 BC), a lot of Cretan towns come to the foreground, among them Gortys.

Knossos is the site of the most important and better known palace of Minoan civilization.
According to tradition, it was the seat of the legendary king Minos. The Palace is also connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur,
and the story of Daidalos and Icaros.
The site was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic period (7000-3000 B.C.) until Roman times.
